Sustainability and Shared Values

By improving infrastructure for education, sports and the community, we contribute to the development of the communities where we operate. Up until 2022, we improved 20 educational institutions in the municipalities of Segovia and Remedios, in the vicinity of our Segovia Operations (Antioquia).

In addition, we help students in the last year of secondary education prepare for the national evaluation to access post-secondary education (Pre-ICFES courses). As of July 2023, over 2,600 students benefited from the courses and two exam simulations took place.

We also foster formal training for contract mining partners. In 2023, we partnered with EAN university to provide training to 2,400 small miners and 70 directors of small mining units.

Public roads, bridges and walkways are essential to the economic development of the communities where we operate.

In 2022, we improved and maintained public roads in the municipality of Segovia. We also built pedestrian bridges in the communities of Marmajón and Las Delicias, as well as paved roads in urban areas.

We also improved the water supply of the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Segovia by installing new water storage tanks. The hospital serves approximately 41,000 residents.

The Colibrí Ecopark is one of Aris Mining’s flagship projects and serves as an exemplary model for the management and reclamation of tailings storage facilities. It is part of the initial phase of the Segovia Tailings Deposit Master Plan, recognized as a success story in Colombia and Latin America for its proper solid waste management (incorporating a filter press system to enable dry-stacking of tailings).

The Ecopark covers an area of 9,200 m² and features a sandy soccer field, a cycling route, a jogging track, a playground, an outdoor gym, an amphitheater with seating for 300 people as well as parking.

Diversity and inclusion are integral core values of ours and are deeply ingrained in our corporate identity. We are committed to our continuous efforts to empower women within the industry. At the end of 2022, 10% of Aris Mining Segovia’s workforce were women and at Marmato, women accounted for 10.5% of the workforce. Thanks to our corporate policies and community strategies, more than 100 women hold operational positions in our Company.

Our gender equality initiatives focus on creating training avenues within the regions where we operate and we have been one of the first mining companies in Colombia to extend opportunities to women in operational roles. We are working to strengthen the inclusion rate of women in our workforce and we aim to achieve 14% women’s representation at Segovia and Marmato in the near term.
